Kitchen Tile Ideas

Kitchen Tile Ideas:
• While using tiles in your kitchen, don't make the mistake of going for coordinated colors, between work surface, walls, floor, and the like, you should use contrasting accent colors and create an impact.
• The kitchen tiles should be either of a lighter or darker shade, or a contrasting accent color.
• While selecting kitchen tiles, an assortment of ceramic, stone, glass and metal tiles can impart an interesting look to your kitchen, which will be affordable as well.
• Using different tile textures can also work. Matt, silk or gloss tiles; un-filled travertine, polished natural stone or porcelain tiles and glass tiles can give a different look.
• The color of kitchen tiles should be kept in mind while selecting the tiles. For example, using dark colored tiles as flooring creates the impression of a larger space.
• While using tiles, pay attention on grout color. Using contrasting color can enhance the look of the kitchen, but also shows grouting or tiling mistakes easily. On the other hand, coordinating grout color creates a seamless effect.

How to Keep Your Floor tiles look sparkling clean:

The best way to maintain is prevention. 3 most effective prevention techniques you can use:

1. The most effective form of prevention is sealing your tiles. Often, the ceramic tile surface will come pre-sealed; however you must check this with your tile manufacturer. Whilst, the tile surface may already be sealed, the grout lines are not, and it is best to get advice from the tiler who laid your tiles, as to what type of sealant is best for your particular grout.

2. The second most effective form of prevention is the cleaning of spills and oily food crumbs, and always keeping an eye out for scuff marks that may have been caused by certain footwear. It is best to clean spills or food crumbs when they first present themselves, so as to prevent them from becoming ingrown stain that are difficult to remove. Remember, the longer you remain putting off cleaning spills and crumbs, the more they will become absorbed into the tile surface, and difficult to remove in the future. No matter what sealant you decided to apply, it can only prevent the absorption of stains for a set period of time; therefore it is inevitable that if spills are not cleaned, stains will appear. Similarly, your grout lines are more susceptible to staining, because the surface is far more porous than your tile surface. Therefore rapidly clean any spills that are on the grout line.

3.The third thing to do is to strategically place floor mats at doorways and hallways. These mats will catch any dirt from the soles of your feet or shoes and will only require occasional cleaning which is far easier and more time efficient than cleaning all your tiled ceramic floor surfaces.

Did you know that there are 4 commonly used types of Ceramic tiles?

These are:

Quarry Tiles

These pieces are made by extruding clay into forms and then firing. Available as glazed or unglazed, you can get natural clay colors of yellow, brown, or red. Tough and water-resistant, quarry tile makes for a really tough, ideal floor surface. Sizes and shapes vary.

Pavers

Pressed rather than extruded, pavers are generally unglazed and must be sealed to be water resistant. Available in many sizes and colors, a common size is 4 by 8 inches, commonly called brick pavers. Very dense pavers are called porcelain tiles.

Porcelain Tiles

These tiles are often earth colors but come in other colors as well. They don't require sealing. The tile material is highly refined clay fire at more than 2000 degrees F. The product is very dense and very hard.

Glazed Tile

usually made of pressed clay, the tiles for walls and floors differ. Wall tiles are often softer and not suitable for floors. Some glazed floor tiles have a textured or matte finish for better traction and longer wear.
