Taking care of marble and vitrified tiles

Marble tiles and vitrified tiles are known to give a sleek and polished look to your home. Both these tiles are similar in many ways but the cleaning and maintenance procedure is as different as chalk and cheese. To know more how to clean each of these tiles read further.

Marble tiles

Marble tiles are made from marble, which is a metamorphic rock. As it is a natural stone, it has a porous surface. Being porous, it needs sealing on regular intervals. Sealing can be done using an impregnating sealer. The sealing should be done without leaving any gaps, especially in wet areas where the marble is fixed. It is alright to clean the marble tiles with mild detergents and stone cleansers. However, use of harsh solvents should be avoided. It is also required that the marble be kept dry at all times, especially in regions where it is exposed to a lot of moisture, like in bathroom and kitchen.

Vitrified tiles

Vitrified tiles are a nice option in places where there is lot of foot traffic. As they are designed to handle rough movement, they are an ideal option in commercial spaces. What makes vitrified tiles stand out is their low water absorption rate. As they do not absorb the liquid, they do not catch stains easily and thus are resistant against any type of spills. Another reason that makes them apt for high traffic areas is that they are scratch resistant and do not develop scuffs and marks. There are no particular restrictions on cleaning vitrified tiles. Any good detergent can be used to clean vitrified tiles. There is also no strict procedure to follow while cleaning them. The process adopted can be as per the home-owner’s convenience.
